Cabbage has low-calorie and high nutritional benefits and it is full of vitamin C, K, and potassium. It also has cancer-fighting and anti-inflammatory superpowers.
There is an Irish blessing which is old and it says: “May the leaves of your cabbage always be free from worms”.
To treat swollen and bruised skin you can use cabbage because it is full of phytonutrients, vitamins, anthocyanins, and glutamine that contain anti-inflammatory properties, good for easing cancer, but also joint pain. Cabbage is used for treating arthritis and sports injuries. Many people who suffer from arthritis reduce their medical intake by adding cabbage leaves to their treatment using them as a wrap.
For cabbage compress, you will need an organic cabbage (preferably red), gauze or bandage, aluminum foil, oven and rolling pin or a wine bottle or you can use meat hammer.
You need to peel away an outer leaf of the cabbage and wash it thoroughly, then dry it thoroughly and cut out the hard stem. Then you need to place the cabbage leaf on a counter and bruise it with a rolling pin to release the juice within. Afterwards, wrap the cabbage in foil and place it in the oven for a few minutes to warm them, but do not make them hot. And then place it directly over the affected area of your body, cover it with bandage or gauze and elevate the area. Then you need to keep the cabbage compress on for about an hour and you need to repeat this two to three times per day, but you need to change the cabbage leaf every time. By the next day, you will start to feel the benefits.
If you want to make a cold compress, you need to refrigerate the cabbage before you begin with the process above, but you need to skip step #4. This is optional.
It is best if you use red cabbage because it contains anthocyanins and it is the chemical that gives red cabbage its color. But anthocyanins reduce joint pain and inflammation. Red and green cabbages have health properties and are healing effects on ulcers.
If you have cabbage allergy which is very rare, but if you have swelling or feel itching on the place where the cabbage is placed, you need to remove it immediately. If the irritation continues or gets worse, then consult with your doctor.
You can use cabbage in your diet as well, as cabbage juice and in raw vegan coleslaw.
